Strong support for cutting-edge research

fischer fixing systems in the new biotechnology centre at the University of Bologna

Strong support for cutting-edge research
The University of Bologna is expanding its research capabilities: a state-of-the-art biotechnology centre for chemistry, pharmacy and applied sciences has been built on the Plesso Navile campus. To reliably secure the complex building services in the demanding laboratories, the project team relied on chemical and mechanical systems as well as digital engineering from fischer.

The challenge: Protection for sensitive laboratory equipment

Research buildings for biotechnological and chemical applications place above-average requirements on the structural framework and building services.

  • Vibration protection: Highly sensitive measuring instruments in the laboratories must not be disrupted by vibrations from ventilation or service lines.
  • Earthquake safety: The fixing concepts had to reliably meet the regulatory requirements for seismic protection in the region.
  • Complex routing: Large quantities of service lines required installation-friendly, flexible suspensions.

fischer Solutions
High-performance chemical mortars, mechanical heavy-duty anchors, concrete screws, modular channel and installation systems

The solution: Perfectly coordinated fixing systems

fischer supplied the right technical solution for every application.

  • Chemical anchorings: Approved fischer injection mortars and high-performance mortars were used where high loads had to be transferred into load-bearing concrete components without expansion pressure – particularly where there were small edge and centre distances in the slab and column areas.
  • Mechanical fixings: For fast, high-load installations, fischer bolt anchors and directly cutting concrete screws were used, which are characterised by quick processing and immediate load-bearing capacity.

Modular installation systems

Pipe routes, cable trays and ventilation ducts were suspended using the fischer channel system. The system enabled cost-effective, adaptable routing and integrated sound- and vibration-decoupling elements to attenuate dynamic impulses.

Planned digitally: Efficient with BIM and software

The engineering team at fischer Italy supported the planners and installers from the very beginning. Using the fischer design software, the anchoring points were precisely designed for static and dynamic load cases. Thanks to the integration of all fastening components into Building Information Modeling (BIM), planning errors were avoided at an early stage and workflows on the construction site were accelerated.
