Hidden heroes: anchors. While these components can be small they are a crucial safety element when it comes to installations. But how can I identify whether I am holding a high-quality anchor or one that is of lesser quality? In this video Stefan will explain how you can test this at home.
More safety with high-quality anchors
The choice of materials used during the manufacturing process is therefore crucial to the product’s quality. Plastic anchors are of course made of plastic. Just like with any material, there are high-quality and low-quality versions. A lot of product alternatives are made with cheaper materials, such as polyethylene (PE), which contains significantly higher quantities of oil. The anchors therefore rise to the surface when placed in a glass of water, as demonstrated in the video. Using products containing PE could lead to the anchor yielding under oblique tensile load. The anchor will therefore no longer be able to carry the bearing load. This could result in the fixings breaking out of the anchoring.
Nylon instead of polyethylene
fischer products exclusively use high-quality materials. The plastic anchors are made with nylon. fischer also created the first bio-based range of fixing products worldwide, the fischer Greenline. The anchors consist of at least 50 per cent renewable materials, while castor oil serves as the basis for plastic components.
